Islamorada Backcountry Fishing
As the sport-fishing capital of the world, Islamorada’s backcountry fishing does not disappoint. Tarpon, Snook, Speckled Trout and Redfish are routinely caught on live or artificial baits. Although the fishing is great, exciting wildlife encounters are common. We often encounter manatees and crocodiles on our backcountry trips.
You can wrap up your fishing trip by searching for Triple Tails on your way back to the dock. Monroe County waters are home to thousands of lobster traps and buoys that attract the Triple Tails. Throw a live shrimp in front of one and hold on! It's a great way to end a day in the backcountry.
Islamorada Fishing Calendar
The Florida Keys are home to so many fish you can always find a species to target. Whether you are hunting for snook in the Everglades National Park or looking for that big grouper out at the reef, Islamorada is the place to be. There is typically more wind during our winter months. However, the Florida Bay offers hundreds of mangrove islands that we can tuck behind and find a calm spot to fish or just enjoy the scenery. Call Captain Matt and he will discuss your options with you depending on the time of year. It's important to remember that the weather and fishing conditions can change by the hour. A good bite on one day does not necessarily guarantee a good bite the next. We will work with you to make sure you get the most out of your experience.
Islamorada Tarpon Fishing
Tarpon fishing in Islamorada is world-class. They can be found on the oceanside flats, around the mangrove islands of the Florida Bay or deep in the backcountry. Although spring is widely known as the best time of year for tarpon fishing, they can be found almost all year round. April through June is typically the best time of year if you really want that tarpon. There are plenty of 100lb fish or even bigger to be caught in Islamorada! We will do our best to target the size class of fish that you are most comfortable with. Targeting the juvenile fish is usually a better match for kids or less experienced anglers.
No matter your experience level, a fight with a tarpon will leave you exhausted but ready for more. There is truly nothing else like it. Whether you are pitching artificial baits in the backcountry or floating live mullet around the bridges, get ready to meet the famous Silver King!
